Hi and welcome to Hooked,
This series is inspired by one of my absolute favourite things: downloading book samples.
Some people knit, others systematically destroy empires, but when I need to relax, I download a list of book samples, read their opening lines, and wait to be …hooked.
Personally, I think it would make a great dinner game. Four to ten adults, surrounded by data and unlimited storage, randomly shouting “hooked!” in-between bites of cold tuna ~but I digress
This interactive series is very simple. I post the opening lines of a popular book and you vote in the polls
Hooked : you loved it so much, you’re already reading the full sample1
Curious : You’ve saved the title for later
Not for me : You had no interest in the story
Ok first up on the docket, “Furies of Calderon” by Jim Butcher2…
You can also tell me the reason behind your choice in the comments. I would absolutely love to discuss. And if there are other titles you think we should explore, please share them with me.
You can still vote if you’ve already read the book. Just let me know whether it was the opening page that got you, or some other external factor (like a recommendation)
Butcher, Jim. Furies of Calderon. Ace, 2004.
